Aerosol Studies from PICO and ENA
PIs in physics and chemistry have long-running studies in the Azores, mid-Atlantic islands. I created these illustrations for the PIs to use in a variety of communications.

NSF CAREER Interpretive Signs
A PI requested two signs as part of the Education and Outreach Plan of her NSF CAREER award. One sign is displayed in her greenhouse space where a portion of the project activity is. The other sign is constructed at field research sites where the majority of outreach occurs with K-12, undergraduate, and community learner audiences. The sites are also near mountain bike and cross country skiing trails, offering curious learners opportunities to intersect with ecological research.

Training Manual for Mobile Thermal Utility Bioburden Reduction System
One team at Michigan Tech pivoted some in-progress technology to serve the rising battle against COVID-19 in the spring of 2020. I developed the two manuals, as well as the original iconography used throughout the manuals. Along with the several internal review cycles, we responded to several rounds of changes with the FDA. This project was fast-paced and highly rewarding.

Conceptual figures for Two-eyed Viewing Framework for an NRT proposal
I worked with a Michigan Tech team working on an NRT proposal to develop these conceptual figures to use throughout their proposal. The NRT proposal was not funded, but we have continued to build on the visuals for other projects and subsequent NRT proposal submissions.

Parity Time Symmetry
Our Marketing and Communication Department was particularly busy when a PI’s request came in for an illustration for an article accepted to Nature Photonics. The editor requested the PI to supply a candidate illustration for the cover. UMC knows I have some skill and punted the opportunity to me before sending the PI to external contractors. I was able to learn Blender and produce a prototype image that the PI liked. I worked over the holiday break to produce an image that met everyone’s needs. However, the editor replaced the image with another at the last minute and our image became an inset with the review article. Still a win!

Future of Work proposal graphic
I custom illustrated all the elements, except the people. Because of time, I purchased an illustrated people package on Creative Market. Sometimes it’s worth supporting other creatives to finish a piece under deadline. The goal here was to keep the costs down and the aesthetic consistent between custom elements and purchased elements.
